Lost Boys & Co...

The Professor impersonating the Coach as Karly Goins reads the signals.  She came in first, despite his coaching!

Partly cloudy this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds are calm and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temperature was a reported 47.9° (can that be true?) and the water is an entirely believable 59.2°.  High tide is at 9:45am +6.2' and low tide will be at 5:19pm -0.6'.  The buoy is reading a west swell out of 273° at 4.6'.  We can only imagine that it's 3' to 5' and really good, until the wind comes up...  Well - is it?

Thank you for all of the reports . Yesterdays report inspired me to get wet .
Black ice is most  definitely a scary thing . 4 wheel drive is key . Snow tires helpful . Slow Down and leave extra space . Light and Ginger on the gas and brakes . I will sometimes put my car into second gear when starting from a standstill at a light . The lower gearing causes more friction , hence the tendency to slip and slide .  If you can approach a red light with a little momentum this also helps when starting up again. Watch out for the other guy , because ... Just because you are being careful doesn't mean the other guy is or has experience with snow / ice covered roads .   Leave early - don't rush ! The mountains will be there when you get there.  In mammoth , I've gone into 15 mph turns at 10 mph in all wheel drive Audi , and slide into the oncoming lane ... Not fun ... that is when I purchased 2 bridgestone blizzaks and put them on for winter .
Happy thanksgiving .   Happy ski season . See you at top !
Larrr.
(Putting all of this in the notes, "Blizzaks" sound like the bomb...  Ed.)

From a few degrees south...
ALOHA Frankie, Lost Boys and Wendys from Oahu
Tis a cool 84 degrees today while water temp is on 78.  The first leg of the Tripple Crown Surfing event is on at Haleiwa.  It was 8-15 Hawaiian two days ago and although Paul and I were NOT invited to surf in the contest, we did look at a lot of places that were toooo scary for me...we ended up on the left at Chuns point and I survived the five waves I dropped down.  Today the contest moves to Sunset Beach and 'if' the new NW swell comes in tomorrow they will start with 15 foot waves.
We are headed to Barbers Point (2 -3  real feet - not Hwaiian) for surf lessons for my kids and grandkids.
Have a wonderful Turkey time Thanksgiving Day to all...  Chris and Barbara Miloe

Frank, great surf shot (of Matt Harris.)  What camera did you use to take this?
Jim (DiCarli)
(That shot was taken by Bishop Montgomery student Katie Bucci, with a Nikon F4 with what looked like a 1000mm lens.  She's the official surf photog for our team...  Ed.)

Photo #2 is a group of frozen hunters following some deer tracks that we saw in the snow.  #3 is the tracks of what was following the hunters!  They were almost 4" across.  Must be an awfully big kitty.

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
